Ah surrealist cinema - a movement that is both exhilarating and playful as well as indulgent and boring. Rene Clair’s debut film encapsulates this contrast better than most. Entr’acte is a Dadaist flight of fancy; a film of illogical and improbable sequences stitched together to mean...well, not a lot. It is a film that features a who’s who of the Dada movement with Satie, Man Ray, Picabia and Duchamp all making an appearance but does it add up to an enjoyable 20-minute experience?
